Sambhar Sadam with millets

Ingredients

1 cup Proso Millet
1/3 cup Arhar Dal
2 inch Drumstick
1 brinjal cubed
1 inch Tamarind
1 tbs Sambhar powder
2 tsp Coconut oil or any other oil you like
1/2 tsp Mustard
1 Dried Red Chilly

Method

Soak the dal for an hour and cook it till mashed.
In a pan, add water, add the drumstick, and brinjal and cook till soft. Add the sambhar powder and the dal.
Cook for 4 minutes, and then add the millets.
Add salt to taste.
Cook till the millets is cooked, and the dish gets a consistency of khichidi.
Add the tempering of mustard seed and dried red chillies and curry leaf
Add the tamarind pulp and cook for 2 minutes.
Serve with papadum and pickle.

Sambhar sadam or Bissi belle bhat is a popular dish from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In this recipe, I have replaced rice with Proso millets. Avoid the boiled egg as seen in the photo for a vegan / vegetarian meal.
