Watermelon Pachadi

The Kerala sadhya, is an epitome of central Travancore cooking. Every mother, wife or daughter has her favorite twist to the traditional dishes in that.
This is a corrupted version of pachadi traditionally made with okra or bitter gourd.

This is a favorite one, of my favorite person in this world which is why I thought I should share this.


  • Watermelon (diced)-1 cup
  • Salt -1 tsp
  • Coconut (scrapped)-2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Green chili- 1 no
  • Cumin- 1/2 tsp
  • Water -1/2 cup and 2 tbsp
  • Beaten curd -2 tbsp


  • Add scrapped coconut, mustard seeds, green chili, cumin, water 2 tbsp in to the mixer and blend it to fine paste and keep aside.
  • In a sauce pan cook the watermelon along with ½ cup of water and salt, cook till water is evaporated.
  • Once evaporated, add the fine paste and cook well for 2 minutes in medium flame.
  • Remove from fire, add 2 tbsp of beaten curd.
  • Season it with mustard, dry red chilies and curry leaves.
